Audio Skipping & Clicking

Hello,

I just wondered if anyone using Active DJ Studio (Audio Engine 11.3.0.3) has experienced intermittent popping, skipping or clicking in their audio application when playing audio. I've attached a sample piece of audio. In the first two songs you can hear clicking in the recording (all be it very faint!) and then on the third song the audio actually skips. This seems to have only happened since audio engine 11.3.0.2.

It can be reproduced on a number of different machines and operating systems so I know it's not a specific PC. I haven't changed any code in the audio side of things either.

On occasions the clicking gets worse the longer the application runs. If however I go into my application and change the audio device and then switch back the clicking stops for a little bit.

It's driving me crazy!

Hello,

usually this kind of problems occurs when the quality of the sound card driver is poor or when the CPU load is very high: if the problem happens on more than one machine, have you noticed any CPU peak when the skipping begins?
In order to check eventual regressions on our side, which by the way have not been reported by other customers till now, can you confirm the latest build of the engine that appears not being affected by the issue?

Hello and thank you for the quick reply!
No obvious CPU spikes. The soundcard in question is Virtual audio Cables.
Audio Engine 11.3.0.1 seems to be ok. Could anything in my code be perhaps causing this? We are using Direct Sound.

Hello,

modifications added from version 11.3.0.1 of the engine should not affect playback quality but in the past other customers using Virtual Audio Cable, which is not a real sound card but only a software emulator, suffered similar problems and also BSOD problems: you may eventually try to raise the BufferLength property of the component to a value between 750 and 2000 in order to see if the problem persists.

We found that using ASIO instead of DS fixed this issue.
